What is a Next-Gen firewall? Basically it’s all of the security we’ve come to love in a firewall but with advancements in granular security at the application level. A next generation firewall blocks or allows traffic at more levels such as “user identity” or the websites reputation. In some cases you can even allow for viewing of certain webistes, like Facebook, but not allow for posting to the website. Essentially making it read-only.
NetworkWorld.com reviewed Next-Gen firewalls from Check Point, SonicWALL, Fortinet and Barracuda. The results were great for SonicWALL.
